It is licensed by the Engineering Council UK to assess candidates for inclusion on ECUK's Register of professional Engineers. The Institute's address is St Peter's House, 45-49 Victoria Street, St Albans, Herts, AL1 3WZ, United Kingdom. The current president of the IOA is Professor Bridget Shield. Past presidents include John Hinton OBE, Colin English, David Weston, Tony Jones and Trevor Cox. ==History== In 1963 a Society of Acoustic Technology was formed in the UK for those interested in this subject: the President was Elfyn Richards.〔R.
